We caught up with CHEEKBONE about their new single STRANGER released today

With the release of their latest single Stranger today, I thought it would be a good opportunity to catch up with the band. The band is made up of Ernest (lead vocals, guitar), Lou (vocals, piano, guitar), Stell (lead guitar), Nick (drums) & Keenan (bass)

Tell us a bit about the band. Where are you from and how did you all meet?

(Stell) Ernest and Lou had been writing and demo’ing some tunes together, and they asked me to lay down some guitar tracks for them, and before we knew it this became a permanent thing as the three of us. After the recording of our first EP ‘Show Me Something’ it became obvious that we needed a drummer and a bass player so we could do what we really wanted which was to play gigs. That’s when Nick and Keenan came in.

Where did the name Cheekbone come from, and why did you decide to use it?

(Lou) I was really into The Mighty Boosh as a kid and there’s this episode where they subscribe to a music magazine called CHEEKBONE. I don’t know how many bands are named after an obscure joke from a surrealist British comedy, but I like to think we’re one of the better ones.

You recently released your latest single Stranger. What does this song mean to you?

(Lou) Well we’re really proud of it, it’s one I had for the longest time and it’s taken several different forms. We think it’s one of the best thing’s we’ve written at this point and we’re just excited for people to hear it on June 19th.

Where do you look for inspiration?

(Stell) At the time, I was listening to bands like Cigarettes After Sex – really chilled and mellow tunes, and I had a riff that was based on their stuff which I got bored of soon enough, so I sped it up and put some distortion on it, which ended up sounding like something not too dissimilar from an early Arctic Monkeys tune.

Is this single a hint at more new music on the way?

(Ernest) We had two or three songs that we were thinking about as the next single and Stranger wasn’t one of them but we were blessed that we had laid down the basics of the track before lockdown started so, when we were left with no way of rehearsing or recording, we had that one to turn to and all it needed was mine and Lou’s vocal to be put down. But yes this is a massive hint to new music coming on the way, we want this song to push us towards a position where we have to make an album. Stranger is a song right for this time, it’s an upbeat summer tune and more new songs will be coming sounding similar and bigger that we’ve been keeping locked away for the right time.

Who produced this music? Have you worked with them before? How was it working with them?

(Lou) We produce all our own stuff ourselves, in the case of Stranger, Keenan (our bass player) messaged me asking if there was anything he could be working on in lockdown, so I sent him what we had recorded of the track and he added a bunch of layers and did this amazing mix that really changed the way we looked at the song.

What have you been doing to keep busy during lockdown?

(Ernest) We’ve been busy challenging each other on Fifa and pretending it’s Euro 2020 , we’ve been ringing each other up and crying on the phone about how much we miss going to the pub, we’re all separately writing a lot of new music and sending it to each other as voice notes and we’ve been having at least a pack of 4 Guinness a day to keep our minds strong and make sure we don’t lose the plot! You know just the usual.

Which artists are currently on your release radar?

(Ernest) We love the new Strokes album and think the world really needed it and we’re enjoying listening to Fontaines DC and looking forward to their second album dropping, we saw The Big Moon at the Roundhouse and thought they were class, apart from that, not much else going on that we feel the need to mention.

Where can we find out more about you?

(Stell) You can find us on Facebook, Insta, Youtube and all streaming platforms as Cheekboneband. But the real action is on our OnlyFans page

Anything you would like to tell us?

(Lou) Just to listen to Stranger when it’s out on June 19th and to check out #saveourvenues

I’d like to thank the guys for taking the time to answer my questions and wish them the best of luck in the future! (you can check out the OnlyFans for yourself, I’m not linking that)

I caught up with Australia’s Scott Boyd about his latest single Restless Heart

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where did your journey in music begin?

My journey in music began probably about 10 years ago now. I was just playing songs and writing in my bedroom whilst at school, and eventually started entering a few local Battle of The Bands etc. From there I recorded my first EP and started playing shows and busking in Melbourne. I’ve been doing it ever since!

If you had to sum yourself up in three words, how would you?

I actually struggle with this one! I’m not too great at talking about myself, but if i had to choose i’d like to think i’m a pretty chill, friendly, and laid back kinda guy.

Tell us a little about your latest single, Restless Heart. What does the song mean to you?

‘Restless Heart’ is a song about learning to relax, and just live in the moment. It was actually written about my twin brother, who has always been an energetic type who constantly needed to be doing the next thing, or at the next place already. I wrote the song about the good times we shared together when we used to drive down to the coast for a surf. It was some of the rare moments when we could both relax and just enjoy each others company, and not worry about when we would arrive.

Is this a hint at more new music on the way?

Absolutely! Keep an eye out for a full EP on the on the way before the end of the year.

Did you have any help with the recording or producing process?

I record most of music with a good friend of mine Daniel Kelaart at Clique Studios. He helped me out when i was first starting and I still go back today. Basically we recorded all of the instruments between us (except for the drums – we got a session musician in for that). I even got to play some ukulele on the record which was pretty cool!

What advice would you give to people who want to make music?

Just make it! Don’t let anything stop you from writing or creating music, it’s such a great  and amazing thing to be able to share with others. The hardest part is just getting started – you just need to commit and give it a shot.

Do you get many opportunities to play shows? Are there any planned for the future?

It’s a bit of a crazy time atm with all of the COVID-19 stuff going on, but I have had the chance to play a couple of live-streamed events which were great fun! After this all blows over hopefully i’ll be able to do a couple of small headline shows around Australia. Just got to wait and see at this point!

What are some of the craziest things that have happened to you at a gig?

I opened a show for a band once and then went out and crowd-surfed during their headline set later, lost my shoes whilst crowd-surfing (I got them back later). It was a pretty fun gig though!

Which artists are you currently listening to?

Patrick James, Hayden Calnin, Dylan Dunlap, Andrew Belle, and Garret Kato.

Where can we find out more about you?

You can find my music on Spotify! I’m also on most social media platforms including Instagram @scottboydmusic and Facebook: www.facebook.com/scottboydofficial

Anything you would like to tell us?

Keep an eye out for that EP later in the year. I’m really excited to get it out there to everyone! You can give me a follow on Spotify and my social media to stay up to date. Thanks so much for the interview too, i really appreciate it!

Well, you heard it here first folks. This is one great track and I cannot wait to hear the EP when it’s out later this year. I would like to thank Scott for taking the time to answer my questions and wish him the best of luck.

I chatted with Billy from Crysal Tides about their latest single MONDAY

Tell us a bit about the band. Where are you from and how did you all meet?

We are Crystal Tides! We come from the south coast. Initially me and the guitarist Harry met at university in Brighton. We would spend our breaks writing songs together and then from there we introduced the others and the band came together really nicely. We write and play indie/rock/pop music.

If you had to sum up your style in three words, what would you say?

Catchy, Energetic, Summery

You recently released your latest single, Monday. What does this song mean to you?

We wrote this one when we was all talking about how we still are doing the things we used to when we were younger and go drinking when we shouldn’t but now we have got the realities of work on Monday hanging over us! Wanting to be full time in the band and spend time out with pals but we can’t always cause of work on Monday!

Is this a hint at more new music on the way?

There is definitely more. During the lockdown period we’ve nearly written two albums worth!!

Who produced this? Have you worked with them before? How was it working with them?

David Evans. He is brilliant. We have a really good relationship and we all understand eachother really well. He has worked with us on all of our releases.

Before lockdown, did you play many shows? How were they?

Yes loads! We actually toured around the country in January. We did a huge show supporting ‘The Sherlocks’ in March and it’s safe to say was one of our best shows to date!

What are some of your favourite stories from these shows?

Just the time spent with band – we all seem to have this odd sense of humour which I can imagine as an outsider looking in probably makes us look like weirdos!

Any plans to get back out on the road once lockdown is over?

Yes for sure. Trying to arrange another tour now but gigs seem very uncertain at the moment!

What would you say to someone who wants to start making music?

Go for it! Write about things you care about and do what makes you happy!

Where can we find out more about you?

Instagram – @crystaltidesband
Facebook – @crystaltidesband
Twitter – @crystaltidesuk

Anything you would like to tell us?

Thanks for having us! Go and stream our new single ‘Monday’ and have a lovely day!

I would like to thank Billy for taking the time to answer my questions and I hope to catch them at a show as soon as we can!

I caught up with Luke from THE DRYAS about their latest single BOY…

Firstly, where does the name The Dryas come from?

It’s not a very exciting story to be honest haha! It comes from a scientific/geographical term ‘The Younger Dryas’ that I read about. A friend suggested ditching the ‘Younger’ part and going with ‘The Dryas’. We intended on coming up with something ‘better’ haha, but then we thought let’s just roll with it.

Can you tell us a bit more about the band? Where are you from and how did you all meet?

We’re all originally from Folkestone in Kent. We met through forming a band when we was about 15/16 and we’ve been writing music together, as various different entities, ever since. Now we all live in Brighton.

How would you sum up your style in three words?

This is a difficult questions to answer in terms of musical style because we enjoy lots of different genres of music. However, to pin it down to three words, I would say we strive to be bold, authentic and modern with our songwriting.

You released today your latest single Boy. Where did you find inspiration for this song?

The inspiration from this song comes from Hudd’s personal battles with mental health. Without trying to come across like we’re following a trend, it’s important that our music comes from a place of personal experience or perspective. We’d like to think this song has an element of positivity amongst the pain, particularly in the music, that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Is this a hint at more new music on the way?

Absolutely – we have another single coming at the beginning of July and an EP later on in the year!

Who produced this? Have you worked with them before?

This song is a co-production between Hudd [singer] and Kris Harris. We have worked with Kris before on some unreleased material and have a great relationship with him.

Can we expect to see any music videos any time soon?

Without giving too much away we have something coming next week, so keep an eye out on our social media!

Are there any plans to play shows when we are allowed back out?

Prior to lock-down we were in rehearsals every week getting ready for our first show. Obviously that’s not the case at the moment, but as soon as we’re allowed, we will be back in the rehearsal room and hopefully we’ll be able to play our first show before the end of the year.

How have you been keeping busy in lockdown?

To be honest, we’ve been very fortunate because of this release, and the next one, that we have been keeping very busy. Getting everything ready to put out our first song has taken a lot of time, so the lock-down has been a bit of a blessing in disguise. We’ve also been working hard on new material for an EP coming out later in the year.

Where can we find out more about you?

The best place to go is thedryas.com where you can sign up to our mailing list (don’t worry we won’t spam you). Then after that you can follow us on social media @thedryas on Instagram and Facebook, @the_dryas on Twitter!

Anything you would like to tell us?

We really hope you enjoy the music and just to keep an eye on what we’re up to. We have lots planned for the rest of the year and will hopefully be playing our first live show as soon as we’re allowed!

I’d like to thank Luke for taking the time to answer my questions and wish him and the rest of the band the best of luck with today’s release.

I caught up with Johnny from THE DESERT about their latest single Disappearing Act

So we last chatted (briefly) after your set at Dot to Dot Bristol last year. What have you been up to since then?

We spent a lot of time last year recording new material, which we’ve just begun to release.  We also played a few festivals last summer which was really fun.  During lockdown we’ve been finding ways to keep working with one another.  We’ve recorded a couple of covers, sending the tracks back and forth to each other, and we were able to take part in the fantastic Colston Hall Bristol Takeover last weekend.

Have you played any interesting gigs? Any funny stories to tell?

We played at SXSW last year which was pretty amazing.  However, there was sheer panic when we thought all of our electrical equipment had stopped working just before going on stage.  Thankfully the brilliant engineers that were working the night fixed it just in time!

You recently released your latest single Disappearing Act. What does this song mean to you?

Lyrically it’s about the fear of starting something with someone new when you’re still stuck in the past.  Musically it represents a change in the way we write together – it was quite collaborative.

Where do you look for inspiration?

All over really.  Listening to music is always a big source.  Gina finds clarity in writing lyrics about her life experiences.

Is this a hint at more new music on the way?

It is.  We have a few tracks in the pipeline that we can’t wait to share soon.  Next up is a Kate Bush cover.

Who produced this music? Have you worked with them before?

We worked with Steve Osbourne on four new singles, and just before lockdown we went to Rockfield to record some more with Joe Jones.

Were you supposed to play any shows that have now been cancelled?

Yes we had a showcase in London organised for May which we missed out on, and we were due to play the BBC Intro Stage at the Big Feastival which has just been cancelled which we’re pretty gutted about.

Are there any plans to play any when we are allowed back out?

Not at the moment! Who knows when that’s gonna be so we’re biding our time currently.

Which artists are you currently listening to?

The 1975, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Arvo Part, Four Tet.  There’s a few playlists on our Spotify that you can check out.

Where can we find out more about you?

Instagram is probably the best place!  Follow @thedesertofficial.

Anything you would like to tell us?

Jonny is allergic to peanuts.

I’d like to thank Johnny for taking the time to answer my questions and wish him and the rest of the band the best success with all their new music

I caught up with BOX TIME about their recent single ANOTHER EXCUSE

Tell us a little about the band. How did you all meet?

John: Two of us are quite obviously brothers. Pad and I grew up in a very musical household. We’ve all been friends for decades, it makes everything so much easier when it comes to making decisions and working together.

Paddy: We were a combination of different band members from other projects that we had all done from experimental performance-punk to melodic pop. The musical equivalent of taking clothes from washing lines as you jump through other people’s gardens.

Where did the name Box Time come from?

John: I briefly moved back in with my parents after a big life-change a few years ago. I was basically living and sleeping in their front room which is more or less a box room. Box Time became my code for when I was recording. Fast forward a couple of years and the songs I was writing then were coming to life in the studio with the band. We needed a name and there it was, etched into the forefront of my mind. Lots of people have asked what the meaning is behind the name and my usual response is to ask: ‘what does it mean to you?’ I’ve heard some interesting interpretations.

If you had to sum up your sound in three words, what would you use?

Ryan: Visceral Melodic Rock

What do you think of your soon to be released single – Another Excuse? What does it mean to you?

John: Another Excuse is a fast-paced, guilt-edged rock song that is designed to portray the current mood and the frustrations of the average Joe. The fact that it’s being released during a pandemic only adds emphasis to the lyrics and tone of the song. It’s by far the best single we’ve put out (so far) and we can’t wait for you to hear it!

Barny: It started out as some acoustic type thing but now it’s our heaviest number.

Can we expect more stuff on the way?

Barny: Before civilisation inconveniently collapsed we got a couple of tracks recorded in the studio. Along with Another Excuse we recorded our next single, In My Brain. It’s real summer pop stuff, catchy chorus and everything.

It’ll also be our first music video, which we actually filmed nearly two years ago when we only had a demo version of the track.  I think you’ll love the video – it involves face-eating, murder-by-cello and a distinctly relevant apocalyptic theme. Clue’s in the song title.

Did you have any help with making and producing this music?

John: We met producer Nico Secretin after one of our well attended shows at The Finsbury. He told us that he’d loved our set and that there was “something nostalgic” about the songs and gave us his card. He came to a few of our subsequent gigs and we got on well. At the start of 2020 we set dates to record with Nico at Puzzle Factory Sound Studios. In late February we did an 11 hour recording session which went exceptionally well. Unfortunately the Covid 19 pandemic lock-down followed and Nico got himself stuck in Belgium. Luckily for us, Nico had taken the stems and managed to build himself a home studio over in Belgium in which he completed several mixes of the two tracks. He was amazing throughout, he took our notes on board after each mix and produced the perfect representation of Box Time’s sound. A proper producer and a great guy.

What’s your song writing process? Where do you look for inspiration?

John: Songs can come from anywhere for me but usually they’re either like a diary entry or a stream of consciousness. We have a song that I wrote about being plagued by THAT Ed Sheeran song* everywhere I went. I’d walk down the street and it was coming from cars, I’d open the window in my flat and it was blaring out from the pub that I lived above. It was nearly the end of me, it was either write a song or see what Ant Powder tasted like. I decided to use the premise of Ed Sheeran being refused entry to a fairground ride on account of him being too tall.

*Shape of You

Who is currently on your release radar?

John: According to Spotify we have The Coral, Cass McCombs, Soccer Mommy, Neil Young, Ariel Pink, Fontaines D.C, Ice-T, LL Cool J, Jay Som, Ketama, Weezer, The Charlatans and Nico. That’s quite an eclectic mix! Also, our friends Average Sex are about to drop an LP on 20th June which we’re excited about!

Where can we find out more about you?

For a bit of backstory we have a teletext style, 8-bit website that will be updated a little closer to release day which is: boxti.me

Otherwise we’re already on all major streaming and social media platforms. For a more extensive view into our story as a band you should visit:

Facebook: Facebook.com/BoxTimeBand

Instagram: @boxtime_band

Anything you would like to tell us?

John: Another Excuse will be coming to all major streaming platforms on Friday 12th June. Spotify, Deezer, iTunes, Amazon Music, Tesla Music, Google Play, Tidal, Napster, YouTube Music, Claro Música – the list goes on. If you’re a Spotify listener then go on and follow us, Another Excuse will be on your Release Radar a week early. Likewise you can pre-order on iTunes from the 9th June.

Paddy: Be excellent to each other.

I’d like to thank John and Paddy for taking the time to answer my questions and wish them all the best with the upcoming release

I chatted to Scotland’s PRIMES about their latest single MOMENT

With the Scottish Indie Rock scene continuing to grow, I caught up with Primes about their incredible new single Moment.

True Style Music – Interview for Primes

Tell us a bit about Primes. Where are you from and how did you meet? Where does the name Primes come from?

We are all from Falkirk, Scotland. Sarah and Ollie met through our local music scene. Reece and Sarah are family members and had already been jamming before asking Ollie to join. We decided to name the band Primes because we liked the meaning of the word Prime. We liked the potential of reaching the Prime of our musical career with this band so we found the name Primes to be quite fitting.

If you had to sum up your style in three words, what would you say?

Anthem Alternative Rock

What does “Moment” mean to you?

Moment is our 8th single release and it’s a feel good summer track. It’s upbeat, catchy and a drumbeat-driven stadium track. It’s a short story that’s inspired by our modern world and the importance of living for the moment.

Where do you look for inspiration?

When I’m thinking of lyrics, I try and reflect on past events in my life and try to convey my feelings that I had during that time. With “Moment” it’s reflecting on a time in my life where I did seize the moment and I encourage others to do the same.

What is next for Primes?

Looking forward to going into a practice room together. Writing new songs. New music releases and play live as soon as we can.

Pre-lockdown did you manage to play any shows? Were there any that stood out to you?

Last year was jammed packed with some really fantastic shows. We had a memorable summer with some really great festivals. Coming into the new year we had some brilliant gigs as well and we were just about to head into our busiest time when lockdown began. As disappointing as that is, it’s for the best.

There’s been a lot of stand out shows but nothing beats a jam packed sell out home town show!

Do you plan to get back on stage when we are allowed to?

We can’t wait. We’re already working on some new songs and I can assure you the first thing we will do is gig, as soon as we can!

Where can we find out more about you?

We are on pretty much every social media and music streaming/download site and we have our own website www.primesband.co.uk

Anything you would like to tell us?

It’s a worrying time for musicians, grassroots venues and everyone else involved with music. We are already seeing a huge impact with regards to studios closing, venues closing and festivals being cancelled/postponed. It looks like it might be a while yet but as long is there is a love for music, the people involved will do their best I think and music will always find a way.

Please stay safe and continue to support your local music scene!

I’d like to thank Primes for taking the time to answer my questions and wish them the best of luck with their new music, and I hope to catch them at a gig as soon as possible.

We had a chat with THE WINTERS about their latest single WE’RE STILL KIDS

Taunton Indie rockers The Winters recently released their latest single We’re Still Kids. Have a read of our conversation here:

Tell us a bit about the band. Where are you from? How did you all meet?

We’re a 3-piece indie band from sleepy Taunton in Somerset, with myself (Joe) on lead vocals and guitar, Matt on bass guitar and BVs and Sam on drums and BVs.

We actually first met about 5 years ago when I got a job at a local school as a music technician where Matt and Sam were still studying music. Matt and I then bumped into each other again a couple of years ago, we got talking about starting a band and I asked if he knew a decent drummer. He said ‘no’, but that he was still in touch with Sam, so we made do with him (only joking Sam, it’s ok!)

If you had to sum up your style in three words, what would you say?

Indie Alt-Rock.

You recently released your latest single We’re Still Kids. What do you think of the song?

We’re Still Kids is a high energy, fun song which mixes a sense of nostalgia with a recognition of our complete incompetence as adults. It came together quickly just before heading into the studio, which meant our parts were partly improvised and the lyrics to the 2nd verse even changed on the day of recording! But I think that gave the track a rawness that really added to the final recording, which we’re really happy with!

Is this a hint at more new music on the way?

Absolutely! Our next single Dream of Me is slightly heavier and a little more serious, but has the same high energy feel to it with plenty of guitar and vocal layers.

Who produced this? Have you worked with them before? How was it working with them?

We worked with producer Joe Marsh who’s also based in Somerset. I did a lot of research before heading into the studio and Joe really stood out. His attention to detail, passion and incredible knowledge really brought the best out of each of our tracks and we’re looking forward to working with him again soon.

Where do you look for and find inspiration for your music?

The best song-writing sessions for me happen when I’m locked in a room by myself with a guitar, where no one can hear me. I play around with some chords until I find something I like and then begin to sing a melody on top of it. The general theme of the song often becomes obvious quite quickly, based on the feel of the music – whether that’s something personal to me, or a story to tell. Then the actual lyrics gradually replace the humming of the melody, until eventually a song is born.

Pre-lockdown, did you get to play many gigs? What were some of your best memories?

We’ve been really focussed on writing and recording our upcoming EP over the last few months, but just before lockdown we did get a couple of gigs in. Our last pre-lockdown gig in Bristol was a great night. We were playing as support and got shouts for more at the end of our set, which was really lovely to hear. As the support band we politely declined though, of course.

How have you been keeping yourself busy during lockdown?

I’ve been spending most of my time working on The Winters – writing and promotion, which has been great! When I’m not doing that, I’ve been playing too many video games, binge-watching too many box sets and eating too many takeaways. We’re Still Kids is embarrassingly auto-biographical.

Any plans to play anywhere when we are allowed back out?

Definitely! We’ve got some headline gigs pencilled in already and as soon as all this is over and we know they’ll definitely be going ahead, we’ll release some more details via our social media pages and website.

What artists are currently on your radar?

Some bands that I’m really enjoying listen to at the moment are Myriad, Quorum and Armstrong. We’re hoping to organise some sort of online gig with these guys soon and they’re all producing some great music at the moment!

Where can we find out more about you?

We’re very active on our Facebook (www.facebook.com/thewintersband) and Instagram (www.facebook.com/thewintersband) pages. We really love receiving messages from people, so feel free to drop us a message!

Anything you would like to tell us?

To celebrate our new single Dream of Me, we’re currently running a free t-shirt giveaway competition (they also work really well as tea towels). So if you’d like to get involved just head over to www.thewintersmusic.co.uk, pre-save the song and you’ll be entered into the draw! Other than that, just thanks so much for having us! 🙂

I’d like to thank Joe for answering my questions and wish him and the rest of the band the best of luck for the next year, and I hope to catch them at a gig when this is all over

NEW RELEASE TODAY: Non Canon II

Cast your mind back to the end of January. A time when we were allowed outside, to go to the pub, to attend gigs, to see other people. Also the time when Oxygen Thief played their last full band gig, at the Exchange, in Bristol.

Not long after that, Barry Dolan, AKA the front guy of Oxygen Thief, announced his second album from his indie-folk side project – Non Canon, titled Non Canon II.

Well, today is the day that album is released to the world. You can buy a physical copy from Non Canon’s Bandcamp, or stream the release on all the normal services.

Judging by the first three releases – Dark Force Rising, Self Untitled and The Saying Of The Seers – this album looks set to be nothing short of amazing.

To celebrate it’s release, Barry will be live streaming tonight on the Xtra Mile Recordings Facebook Page. I hope to see you all there.

I wish Barry all the best of luck with the release.

Chncer recently released their latest single PUT THE SUN IN MY HAND. I caught up with the band about it

Tell us a little bit about the band. Where are you from? How did you all meet?

We’re from the shadow-land that is modern post-industrial northern Britain. We were all in a covers band as teenagers and we started to feel that we wanted to express ourselves in a way that was a little bit closer to who we were. We wanted to express things about our experience and lives that people could connect with. We figured as long as we don’t try to be anything other than ourselves and put our personality into it, we’d be pointing in the right direction.

What kind of style do you play, and any other bands you’d liken yourself to?

The style of music is definitely alternative rock but in terms of what styles of music or bands influence us, we really have no idea. The bands we listen to are so varied that we don’t have any sort of genre bias. We want to incorporate the weird, the trendy and the un-trendy alike. If something wants to come out in one of our songs then so be it we aren’t going to try and stop it. However, with that being said we are definitely – at least – as good as The Beatles.

You recently released Put The Sun In My Hand. What does this song mean to you?

Lyrically and musically the song is definitely based around the theme of personal reflection and responsibility. What problems are actually caused by yourself and what are you gonna do about it, what do you need to move forward. Maybe failing is better than never knowing. Either give yourself the power to illuminate why you aren’t happy or die never knowing who you are: ‘Put the sun in my hand or bury me with a question mark’.

Where did the inspiration for this come from?

Post teen confusion? I don’t know what to call it. I think there’s this sort of existential mood people inherit as they end their teenage years and reach their early twenties. It almost seems like it’s meant to be that way, as if it’s hard wired in our brains to happen. What would happen if instead of making doomer memes, you leant into those feelings and used them to analyse the person you could become? Probably self-improvement.

Did you have any help with the recording and producing process?

Dave Anson from Glass sound studio’s has the patient of a saint and was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. He is incredibly helpful without being intimidating and we would recommend Glass sound studios to anybody. Most of the idea’s came whilst in the studio and the atmosphere while recording was instrumental to that.

Have you had chance to play many gigs before lockdown? Do you hope to play some after we are all allowed back out?

Just before the lockdown happened we had secured a headline at Gullivers in Manchester for the release of Put the sun in my hand and a were asked to a play at Kendall calling. Nothing like global deadly pandemic to mess up your plans, but things are being re-scheduled and stream numbers are the highest they’ve ever been so it’s still on the up. Bigger things to come is actually a fact and not a hope.

What artists are currently on your radar?

In terms of newer bands: Dry cleaning. They are so fresh and interesting and it’s gonna be so exciting to see how the develop. Other than that there are too many to name. However, if Sports Teams first album isn’t one of the best British debuts in a decade we will riot.

How else are you keeping yourself busy in isolation?

Boggling our minds at the streaming numbers is the main way that we’re passing the time in isolation. Other than that we’re just hopping around with anticipation to get some new stuff recorded, we can’t wait to blow people away.

Well, you heard it here first, and this band is one that looks set for greatness. I’d like to thank them for taking the time to answer my questions, and wish them the best of luck for the future.
