With the Scottish Indie Rock scene continuing to grow, I caught up with Primes about their incredible new single Moment.
True Style Music – Interview for Primes
Tell us a bit about Primes. Where are you from and how did you meet? Where does the name Primes come from?
We are all from Falkirk, Scotland. Sarah and Ollie met through our local music scene. Reece and Sarah are family members and had already been jamming before asking Ollie to join. We decided to name the band Primes because we liked the meaning of the word Prime. We liked the potential of reaching the Prime of our musical career with this band so we found the name Primes to be quite fitting.
If you had to sum up your style in three words, what would you say?
Anthem Alternative Rock
What does “Moment” mean to you?
Moment is our 8th single release and it’s a feel good summer track. It’s upbeat, catchy and a drumbeat-driven stadium track. It’s a short story that’s inspired by our modern world and the importance of living for the moment.
Where do you look for inspiration?
When I’m thinking of lyrics, I try and reflect on past events in my life and try to convey my feelings that I had during that time. With “Moment” it’s reflecting on a time in my life where I did seize the moment and I encourage others to do the same.
What is next for Primes?
Looking forward to going into a practice room together. Writing new songs. New music releases and play live as soon as we can.
Pre-lockdown did you manage to play any shows? Were there any that stood out to you?
Last year was jammed packed with some really fantastic shows. We had a memorable summer with some really great festivals. Coming into the new year we had some brilliant gigs as well and we were just about to head into our busiest time when lockdown began. As disappointing as that is, it’s for the best.
There’s been a lot of stand out shows but nothing beats a jam packed sell out home town show!
Do you plan to get back on stage when we are allowed to?
We can’t wait. We’re already working on some new songs and I can assure you the first thing we will do is gig, as soon as we can!

Anything you would like to tell us?
It’s a worrying time for musicians, grassroots venues and everyone else involved with music. We are already seeing a huge impact with regards to studios closing, venues closing and festivals being cancelled/postponed. It looks like it might be a while yet but as long is there is a love for music, the people involved will do their best I think and music will always find a way.
